PIERRE, S.D. – The official start of the South Dakota snowmobile season began on Dec. 15, with the opening of the statewide trail system.
"We're looking forward to another great season of snowmobiling in South Dakota," said Black Hills trail manager Shannon Percy. "Snowmobiling is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the winter months across our state." South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) officials remind the public that many trails do not have enough snow to begin grooming. “We don’t have much rideable snow yet in the Black Hills,” continued Percy. “We would like to remind people that the snowmobile trail system travels through private property that is leased for snowmobile use only." The snowmobile trails are not available to UTV and ATV users. “All snowmobile enthusiasts should pick up a new snowmobile map and make themselves aware of the changes for this year's system," Percy said. "Not all private lands are open to snowmobiling. Riders should also be aware of the cross-country ski areas and winter wildlife range, where snowmobiling is prohibited.” Snowmobile trail maps for 2025-2026 can be picked up at various businesses along the trails, or riders can request a copy by calling 605.584.3896 or 605.773.2885. With various cameras along the trails, current images of snow conditions and a map of the trails can be found online at gfp.sd.gov/snowmobiling. East River trails have had a good start, but all areas will need more snow. “We appreciate the snowmobile clubs and volunteers for all their work placing signs across 952 miles in eastern South Dakota,” said snowmobile trails coordinator Ryan Raynor. While South Dakota does not require completion of a Snowmobile Safety Course, other states do require certification. “We encourage any snowmobile enthusiast, no matter their experience, to take a snowmobile safety course,” Raynor said. “We offer online courses, and clubs host safety courses in their local communities throughout the winter months.” To take the free, online course through Kalkomey, contact Ryan Raynor at 605.773.2885 to receive the code. The snowmobile season runs until March 31. VIEW TRAIL CONDITIONS 4:30PM MT

Our water operator just informed us that we will be out of water until noon on the east side of the mountain to the highway by Rec Springs for meter pit installation.
Due to a Meter installation on Aspen Dr., water will be shut off on Aspen Dr only until approximately 5:00 pm today. UDPATE: Because they couldn't isolate the valve, all of Aspen and to the west of Aspen will be out of water.
